Statistical  Data

Statistical  Data: 

The word data information (its exact dictionary meaning is given facts). Statistical data are of two types

(i) primary data

(ii) secondary data.

Primary Data

When an investigator collects data by using a proper form and with a definite plan is called primary data.  Primary data are reliable and relevant because they are original in character and are collected by some individuals or by some institutions or by research bodies.

For example, data obtained in a population census by the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner , Ministry of Home Affairs , are primary data.

Secondary Data

Data which are not originally collected rather obtained from published or unpublished sources are known as secondary data. Secondary data are collected by an individual or an institution for some purpose and are used by someone else in another context. Therefore secondary data should be used with great care.
